Structure your defense talk and handle Q&A with confidence
The defense has two parts: your presentation (controlled) and examiner Q&A (uncontrolled). Master both.
Japanese reading is hard for beginners. Hybrid writing system + structural distance from Indonesian. Memorization alone doesn't work.
Concept mapping helps, but open-ended maps are hard to assess. Kit-Build solves this with close-ended reconstruction. Used in English/EFL — but not yet in Japanese.

One-group pretest-posttest pilot. 35 beginner Japanese learners. Three sessions (Day 1–2 offline, Day 3 online). Reading material from Minna no Nihongo Ch. 10. Kit-Build activity + pre/post-test + TAM + feedback.
Score direction: 7.06 → 7.77/10. Kit-Build scores: ~54% mean. TAM above 3.5. Ceiling effect: low pre-test group gained more. No significant Kit-Build → score change correlation.
Contribution: open-source platform + pilot procedure for Japanese. Limitations: no control group, same questions, dictionary access, ceiling effect. Future: controlled experiment, parallel forms, larger sample.

Type 1: Factual — "How many participants?" → Answer directly. No hedging needed.
Type 2: Justification — "Why did you use the same questions?" → State rationale → acknowledge limitation → mention future alternative.
Type 3: Interpretation — "What does this result mean?" → Describe the finding → connect to your claim boundary → note what you cannot say.
Type 4: Challenge — "This seems like a weak design." → Acknowledge the concern → explain why the design was appropriate for a pilot → show awareness of next steps.
Type 5: Unknown — Something you genuinely don't know → "That's a good point. I'd need to check the exact value/data on that, but based on what I know, [best answer]. I can follow up after the defense."
